Tour Overview

Duration : 3 Days / 2 Nights

The Vaishno Devi Yatra is one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimages in India, located in the Trikuta Mountains of Jammu and Kashmir. Situated at an altitude of 5,200 feet, the journey to the Holy Cave of Mata Vaishno Devi attracts millions of devotees seeking blessings and spiritual peace.

  • Distance: ~45 km (Jammu → Katra)
  • Travel Time: 1.5–2 hours by road from Jammu; the trek from Katra to the Bhawan is ~12–14 km.
  • Best Time to Visit: March to June and September to October (winters are freezing with possible snow; monsoons offer lush views but can make trekking slippery).

Places to Visit

  • Banganga: The starting point of the trek where devotees often take a holy dip in the river.
  • Ardhkuwari Temple: A mid-way point featuring the narrow "Garbhjoon" cave where the Goddess is said to have meditated.
  • The Vaishno Devi Bhawan: The main shrine where the Goddess resides in the form of three natural rock formations (Pindis).
  • Bhairon Nath Temple: Located 2 km above the Bhawan; it is believed the Yatra is incomplete without visiting this temple.
  • Katra Main Market: The vibrant base camp hub perfect for buying dry fruits, walnuts, and traditional "Prasad."
  • Raghunath Temple: A beautiful ancient temple complex located in Jammu city, often visited on the way back.

Important Travel Tips

  • Registration (Yatra Parchi): It is mandatory to obtain a Yatra Registration Card (online or at Katra) before starting the trek.
  • RFID Cards: Carry the mandatory RFID tracking card at all times for security and monitoring purposes during the climb.
  • Footwear & Fitness: Wear comfortable, high-grip walking shoes. If you have physical limitations, consider booking a pony, pithu, or the battery-operated auto-rickshaw (for seniors) in advance.
  • Cloakrooms: Cameras, leather items (belts/wallets), and heavy bags are not allowed inside the Bhawan; utilize the free cloakroom facilities provided by the Shrine Board.
  • Clothing: Even in peak summer, the mountain air is cool. Carry light woolens for the night trek. In winter, heavy jackets and thermals are essential.
