Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer, often called the “Golden City of India,” is one of the most fascinating destinations in Rajasthan. Located in the heart of the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer is famous for its golden sandstone architecture, historic forts, desert landscapes, and vibrant Rajasthani culture. The city gets its name from Maharawal Jaisal Singh, who founded it in 1156 AD.
The most iconic attraction in Jaisalmer is the magnificent Jaisalmer Fort, also known as Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort. Built with yellow sandstone, the fort glows with a golden hue during sunrise and sunset. It is one of the few living forts in the world where people still live and work inside the fort walls.
